Rochester Museum & Science Center: RMSC After Dark

After spending a few years at my first agency job out of college, I transitioned into a new role as the Senior Graphic Designer at the Rochester Museum & Science Center. I was hungry for a creative opportunity and a chance to spread my wings. I found that and then some at the RMSC. With each new rotating exhibit came a whole new brand and “product” to discover. Ranging from outer space to frogs, dinosaurs, and history it truly was a one-of-a-kind job. One of my favorite projects I helped to create was the RMSC After Dark, 21+ program. A chance for adults to come and hang out for a night of nostalgia and cool hands-on experiments after hours without the kids for an immersive experience, drinks optional of course. Before this most of the programs were aimed at kid’s and families but as a young professionals we knew that EVERYBODY could love science and that we were missing a market. They gave us a small budget and a team and let us run and we ended up with something amazing that by the end of it was selling out at 500+ tickets while normal programs were struggling to make attendance. Themes were usually chosen to match the museum’s rotating exhibit or something we were passionate about and each of us would chip in to add ideas and experiences and add our own expertise to the table. I designed all the promotional materials but also got to build something much greater. I think the lesson I learned here is that when people are really happy and you put heart into it, it shows. I try to bring that with me to every project.

General Brand

Outside of the RMSC After Dark project I was also in charge of all the branding and marketing materials for the Museum, the Planetarium as well as neighboring nature center. No matter what day of the week there was always something cool going on. Growing up as kid in the same town it was really neat to work behind the scenes at something you remember like that. Below is just a small collection of some of the materials I worked on there.
